PRE-CONFERENCE ACADEMIES

Join us for our comprehensive Pre-Conference Academies, aimed at helping you create change both personally and professionally. These intensive sessions are designed to give participants an in-depth learning experience in specific areas. They are intended to rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit as well as build capacity by inspiring you to become an agent for change.

Pre-Conference Academy sessions are either half or full-day events (3-8 hours) and include workshop materials*. Pre-registration is mandatory. Please see individual academy descriptions below for exact times. You must be registered to attend the BOOST Conference in order to attend a Pre-Conference Academy.

NOTE: You cannot register on-site for Pre-Conference Academies. The deadline to register for all Pre-Conference Academy sessions is April 15, 2024. 

You cannot switch your Pre-Conference Academy registration on-site. You may only attend the Pre-Conference Academy you registered for online.

DEVELOPMENTAL RESILIENCE

Hardship and adversity are unavoidable parts of life. However, youth can emerge from challenging situations stronger than before, able to navigate future hardships. PEAR's Pre- Conference Academy features up-to-date research on youth mental health and resilience from experts at Harvard and McLean Hospital, where PEAR began.

Developmental Resilience is the building block of DEI. It recognizes everyone's challenges and ability to be resilient in challenging environments.

GROWING RESILIENT MINDS: STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING MENTAL FITNESS IN STUDENTS

In this in-depth interactive Academy, participants will receive simple tools and resources to support you in helping children understand the way their brain works, how the structures of the brain impact one's ability to focus attention, manage emotions, and understand the human potential for happiness. Through MindUP, over 7 million students from around the world have learned how to take brain breaks to regulate their emotions, practice perspective-taking, and bring more optimism, kindness, and gratitude into their lives.

Invention Education appeals to all students! It starts with students identifying problems in their lives rather than being given a problem to solve. This inspires students to design a solution, using empathy and perseverance. Educators will experience design challenges that demonstrate that agency, self-direction, and fun. Invention education is a powerful tool in connecting to your community. The session will include examples from young inventors and community involvement stories.
